McCandless township에서 2022-2023년도 학생 위원을 뽑습니다. 지역의회가 어떻게 운영되는지 경험해 볼 학생들에게는 좋은 기회라고 봅니다.

McCandless high school juniors and seniors – Are you a leader? Do you want to learn how things get done in your community and share the perspective of young adults? This is your opportunity!
The Town of McCandless is seeking applicants to serve as its 2022-2023 Junior Councilperson.
Forget D.C. and Harrisburg – your local government is the best place to get involved and work on real change.
As Junior Councilperson, you will attend monthly Town Council meetings and compose a monthly written report to Town Council advising them of issues affecting local students and providing your perspective of current local issues. In addition, you can select a focus area, work collaboratively with the Town on projects, assist town staff with information gathering and social media, foster greater involvement in government by students and even collaborate with Junior Councilmembers from other local municipalities.
Candidates must be Town of McCandless residents who are incoming high school juniors or seniors. The Junior Councilperson will serve a term coinciding largely with the school year (September/October through June).

피츠버그는 한인 타운이 잘 발달되지 않아서 한국음식을 먹기 힘듭니다. 한국 식품을 살 수 있는 한인마트 및 다른 마트들을 모아봤습니다.

1. 피츠버그 한인마트
피츠버그의 한인마트는 다른 도시에 비해 규모가 작습니다. Hmart와 같은 큰 마트는 없고 작은 마트가 몇개 있습니다. 저희 학원이 위치한North Allegheny나  그 옆 Hampton 학군 지역에 살면 자주 가기는 쉽지 않습니다.

각종 채소가 있습니다.

Ross Mall 근처로 이사한 후 좀 더 접근이 쉬워지고 물건도 더 많아져서인지 예전보다 다양한 사람들이 오는 것 같습니다. 예전에는 중국인 중심이었다면 이제는 백인들도 상당히 오고 한국산 물건도 가끔 있습니다.

3. 각종 다른 나라 식료품

1) Penn Ave.를 따라서  Strip District이라고 불리우는 각종 식당가와 식료품점이 있는 거리가 있는데 처음에는 렌트비가 싸서 소규모의 각국 다양한 가게들이 있는 곳이었는데 유명세를 타면서 관광버스도 지나가는 곳이 되어서 이제는 좀 자본력이 있는 평범한 상가도 들어서게 된 곳입니다. 여기에 위에 언급된 삼복 한인마트도 있고, Lotus 중국마트도 있고, 길을 따라 이탈리아, 그리스, 대만, 중동계 등 다양한 식료품점이 있습니다. 

2) 그 외에도 도시 구석구석에 작은 여러나라 식료품점이 있습니다. 저희 학원에 가까운 Wexford 지역을 예를 들면 인도 식료품점 Spice n Sabzi (10293 Perry Hwy, Wexford, PA 15090)에서 인도 카레나 향신료를 살 수 있습니다. 

4. 일반
​
1) 해산물
Strip에 Wholey라고 해산물 전문점이 있습니다. 그 외에 Whole Foods에도 신선한 생선이 있고, Costco나 Trader Joe’s 에서도 괜찮은 가격에 해산물을 살 수 있습니다. Wholey에서는 작은 추가비용으로 생선 손질을 해주고, Whole Foods에서는 손질은 무료입니다.

2) Costco
피츠버그 코스코는 한인이 많은 지역에 비해 한국식료품은 늦게 들어오는 편에 속하는데, 예전에 비해 한국 식품이 좀 들어오는 것 같습니다. 김, 햇반, 삼겹살, 김치, 두부, 육계장 등이 있고 때에 따라 들어오는 식품이 다릅니다. 지점마다도 약간씩 다른데, Homestead에 있는 코스코에 좀 더 한국음식이나 아시아 음식이 많이 있는 것 같습니다. 예를 들어 LA갈비 같은 건 Homestead지점에서만 본 것 같습니다.

3) Trader Joe’s
야채튀김, 파전, 잡채, 호떡 등 한국에서 제조한 음식이 요즘은 꽤 들어 옵니다. 여기도 때에 따라 들어오는 식품이 달라집니다.
